Day 2: The Momentum of Sin
Reading: James 1:13-15; 2 Samuel 11:6-17
Devotional: Sin rarely happens in isolation—it escalates. David's story reveals the terrifying momentum of compromise: he looked, he sent for her, he slept with her, he lied, he murdered. Each step seemed manageable, but momentum carried him farther than he ever imagined going. James describes this progression: "Each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death." Sin will always take you farther than you wanted to go, cost you more than you wanted to pay, and keep you longer than you wanted to stay. The time to stop is now—at the first step, not the last.
Reflection: What small compromise am I making today that could escalate into something destructive tomorrow?
