Day 4: Remaining Connected to the Source

Reading: John 15:1-8 -- Jesus describes himself as the vine and his followers as branches, making clear that apart from him no one can bear lasting fruit, but those who remain in him will produce abundantly.

Devotional: No root, no fruit. It is that simple and that serious. A branch that is disconnected from the vine does not struggle to produce fruit -- it simply cannot. The same is true in your spiritual life. You cannot manufacture faithfulness, patience, or genuine love on your own. These things grow only when you stay connected to Jesus. Remaining in him means returning to his word, returning to prayer, returning to community, and returning to surrender even when it is inconvenient. God is not asking you to be perfect before he works through you. He is asking you to stay connected so he can do the growing.

Reflection: What habits or distractions have been pulling you away from your connection to God, and what is one step you can take today to remain in him?
