Guarding Your Heart: Surviving Hurt Without Losing Who You Are
Every season of life brings moments that wound us—betrayal, disappointment, grief. The question isn't whether we'll be hurt, but who we'll become after the hurt.
In John 13, Jesus knew Judas would betray Him, yet He still knelt and washed his feet. That towel wasn't permission for what Judas would do—it was freedom. Jesus refused to let betrayal change His heart or stop Him from loving the other eleven disciples.
Hurt is inevitable, but becoming hard-hearted is optional. Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it (Proverbs 4:23). When we let hurt harden us, we lose the ability to love, serve, and trust again. But when we pick up the towel—even with tear-stained cheeks—we survive the hurt without losing who God created us to be.
Your Judas may have hurt you once, but if he makes you stop loving, he wins twice. Don't let the hurt steal your heart. Love anyway.
